Prayer, adoration, inspiration set to music.
Cincinnati Magazine has cited the Knox Church music program as the “Best Church Music” in Cincinnati. That’s nice, but more meaningful are the comments we hear from worshippers expressing how worship music helps empower prayer, adoration, and inspiration.
Knox supports four choirs: Knox Choir (High School – Adult), Fresh Spirit Singers, and Handbell Choir. Through its vocal and instrumental resources Knox produces music for all Sunday, seasonal, and special worship services, Christmas pageants, children’s musicals, and community outreach programs on the Knox Music Series.
A Summer Sampler of Sacred Music – ONLINE concert
August 1, 8 & 15 at 2 pm
The Music Program of Knox Presbyterian Church announces the “Knox Music Series Summer 2021”. This special three-part series will premiere online at 2 pm on August 1st, 8th and 15th on the Knox website, Facebook and on our Youtube channel.
The music in the series was recorded last spring by the Knox Choir Soloists/Section Leaders, with guest instrumentalists and Knox Organist/Pianist Christina Haan.
Part I– four movements from George Frideric Handel’s Chandos Anthem – Let God Arise (Psalm 68), one of his first major works after arriving in early seventeenth century England where he spent the rest of his career.
Part II – five African American Spirituals arranged for singers and gospel-style piano by Rollo Dilworth, Philadelphia composer, arranger and frequent guest conductor of the Cincinnati Youth Choir.
Part III – three works for soloists and ensemble from Johann Sebastian Bach’s masterworks – Mass in B Minor, Saint Matthew Passion, and Cantata No. 140, Wachet auf.
Part III/IV – a Toccata by American composer/organist Alfred Fedak, played by Christina Haan on Knox’s 50-rank Holtkamp pipe organ.
